Svrljiški Belmuž is a traditional Serbian dish originating from the region of Svrljig. Ingredients
- fresh cow’s milk cheese – 500 g / 1.1 lb
- cornmeal – 200 g / 1 cup
- water – 480 ml / 2 cups
- unsalted butter – 50 g / 3.5 tbsp
- salt – 1 teaspoon
Instructions
- In a heavy-bottomed pot, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add water and salt to the pot, and bring to a simmer.
- Slowly whisk in the cornmeal to avoid lumps, stirring continuously.
- Cook the mixture, stirring frequently, until it thickens into a smooth polenta-like consistency, about 10-15 minutes.
- Cut the cheese into small cubes and gradually add them to the pot, stirring until melted and fully incorporated.
- Once the cheese is melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy, serve immediately in deep bowls.
