Munkki, the traditional Finnish doughnut, is a beloved pastry that finds its delicious roots in the heart of Finland. Such treats are typically associated with various Finnish festivities, especially during May Day celebrations known as ‘Vappu’. Characterized by their round shape and soft, airy texture, munkki offers a subtly sweet, cardamom-infused flavor, setting them apart from their international counterparts.

  • all-purpose flour – 4 cups / 480 g
  • milk – 1 cup / 240 ml
  • granulated sugar – 1/4 cup / 50 g
  • unsalted butter – 1/4 cup / 60 g

  7. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
