Ingredients
- glutinous rice – 2 cups / 400 g
- Chinese sausage (lap cheong) – 2 links / 120 g
- dried shrimp – 1/4 cup / 30 g
- shiitake mushrooms – 6 pieces
- soy sauce – 3 tablespoons / 45 ml
- oyster sauce – 2 tablespoons / 30 ml
- water – 2 cups / 480 ml
- green onions – 2 stalks
- cooking oil – 2 tablespoons / 30 ml
- white pepper – 1/4 teaspoon / 1 g
Instructions
- Rinse the glutinous rice thoroughly until the water runs clear. Soak it in 2 cups of water for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
- Soak the shiitake mushrooms in hot water for 30 minutes, then slice them thinly.
- Soak the dried shrimp in warm water for 15 minutes, drain, and set aside.
- Slice the Chinese sausage into thin rounds.
- Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the Chinese sausage, mushrooms, and dried shrimp until aromatic, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the drained rice to the pan, stirring to coat in the mixture. Add soy sauce and oyster sauce, mixing until combined.
- Transfer everything to a steamer, adding a bit of the soaking liquid from the mushrooms if needed. Steam over medium-high heat for 40 minutes.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and a sprinkle of white pepper before serving.
