Tahini, a quintessential element of Syrian cuisine, is a creamy, nutty spread made from finely ground sesame seeds. Its roots trace back to ancient Syria, where it has been a staple for centuries. Ingredients
- Sesame seeds – 2 cups / 280 g
- Olive oil – 1/4 cup / 60 ml
- Salt – 1/2 tsp / 3 g
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread sesame seeds on a baking sheet.
- Toast sesame seeds in the oven for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally until golden brown.
- Let the seeds cool, then transfer them to a food processor.
- Process the seeds for about 3-5 minutes until a crumbly paste forms.
- Add the olive oil and salt to the processor and blend for another 2-3 minutes until smooth and creamy.
- Transfer the tahini to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.
