Posta Mirandesa is a traditional Portuguese meat dish hailing from the northern region of Trás-os-Montes, particularly associated with the towns of Miranda do Douro. This dish showcases the rich agricultural and pastoral heritage of the area, where Mirandese beef, a protected designation of origin, is celebrated for its quality and flavor. Known for its simplicity yet profound taste, Posta Mirandesa typically consists of thick cuts of beef seasoned with coarse salt and grilled to perfection. It embodies the rustic and hearty culinary traditions of Portugal’s interior regions.

Ingredients

  • Mirandese beef steak – 4 steaks (about 250 g each)
  • Coarse salt – 2 tablespoons
  • Olive oil – 4 tablespoons
  • Garlic cloves, crushed – 4 cloves
  • Lemon wedges – For serving
  • Chopped parsley – 2 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. Pat the beef steaks dry and season generously with coarse salt on both sides.
  2. Heat olive oil in a grill pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  3. Add the crushed garlic cloves to the oil; cook until fragrant, about 1 minute, then remove them.
  4. Place steaks on the pan and grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side, depending on thickness, until a nice crust forms.
  5. Let the steaks rest for 5 minutes before serving to let the juices redistribute.
  6. Garnish with lemon wedges and chopped parsley before serving.
