Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour – 4 cups / 500 g
  • whole milk – 1 cup / 240 ml
  • unsalted butter – 4 tablespoons / 56 g
  • sugar – 1/4 cup / 50 g
  • salt – 1 teaspoon / 5 g
  • dry yeast – 2 teaspoons / 7 g
  • egg – 1 large
  • sliced ham – 10 ounces / 280 g
  • raisins – 1/2 cup / 75 g
  • green olives – 1 cup / 150 g
  • egg yolk – 1, for glazing

Instructions

  1. Heat the milk until warm, then combine it with the yeast and a pinch of sugar in a bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In another bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, butter, and egg, kneading the dough until smooth and elastic.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the dough into a large rectangle on a floured surface. Layer the ham slices, raisins, and olives evenly across the dough.
  5. Carefully roll the dough into a log, tuck the ends, and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Brush the rolled dough with egg yolk for a glossy finish and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes.
  7. Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
