Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour – 500 g / 4 cups
  • lukewarm water – 300 ml / 1 1/4 cups
  • active dry yeast – 7 g / 1 packet
  • sugar – 10 g / 2 tsp
  • salt – 10 g / 1 1/2 tsp
  • olive oil – 30 ml / 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the lukewarm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow the mixture to sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the bowl and mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball and flatten slightly.
  6. Place the dough balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover them, and allow to rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F).
  8. Brush the tops of the dough with olive oil and bake for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack.
