Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour – 2 cups / 240 g
  • water – 1 cup / 240 ml
  • salt – 1 teaspoon / 5 g
  • olive oil – 2 tablespoons / 30 ml

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add water while stirring until the mixture forms a soft dough.
  2. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Divide the dough into four equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten it to form a round disc about 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and brush lightly with olive oil. Place a disc of dough in the skillet.
  5. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and puffed. Repeat with remaining dough discs.
  6. Serve warm with stews or honey, enjoying the delicate flavors of this traditional Eritrean bread.
