Keema, a deeply savory and aromatic minced meat stew, hails from the Indian subcontinent, where it has long been cherished for its rich, spiced flavors and hearty texture. Ingredients

  • Ground lamb – 1 lb / 450 g
  • Onion – 1 large, finely chopped
  • Garlic – 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger – 1 inch piece, minced
  • Tomato – 2 medium, chopped
  • Peas – 1 cup / 150 g
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp / 2 g
  • Coriander powder – 2 tsp / 4 g
  • Red chili powder – 1/2 tsp / 1 g
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp / 1 g
  • Garam masala – 1 tsp / 2 g
  • Salt – to taste
  • Vegetable oil – 3 tbsp / 45 ml
  • Cilantro – for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter for about 30 seconds.
  3. Add the onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Stir in the garlic and ginger, cooking until fragrant.
  5. Add tomatoes and cook until they soften and the oil separates.
  6. Mix in coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric, and salt.
  7. Add the ground lamb, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned.
  8. Stir in the peas and garam masala, cook for another 5 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot.

  • Ground lamb -> Ground beef or turkey
  • Peas -> Diced potatoes
  • Vegetable oil -> Ghee or sunflower oil
