Fisherman’s Pie is a comforting and hearty seafood dish that hails from the coastal regions of England. Ingredients
- potatoes – 1.5 lb / 680 g
- milk – 1 cup / 240 ml
- butter – 4 tbsp / 56 g
- white fish fillets (e.g., cod or haddock) – 1 lb / 450 g
- smoked haddock – 0.5 lb / 225 g
- shrimp – 0.5 lb / 225 g
- leeks – 2, thinly sliced
- all-purpose flour – 2 tbsp / 16 g
- heavy cream – 0.5 cup / 120 ml
- grated cheddar cheese – 0.5 cup / 60 g
- parsley – 2 tbsp, chopped
- salt – to taste
- black pepper – to taste
- olive oil – 1 tbsp / 15 ml
Instructions
- Peel and boil the potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and mash with 2 tablespoons of butter and a splash of milk. Season with salt and pepper.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Poach the white fish and smoked haddock in the remaining milk until just cooked through. Remove and flake into large pieces, reserving the poaching liquid.
- In a pan, soften the leeks in olive oil over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in the reserved poaching liquid and cream, cooking until thickened. Stir in the fish, shrimp, parsley, and season with salt and pepper.
- Transfer the seafood mixture into an ovenproof dish, spread the mashed potatoes on top, sprinkle with cheese, and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
