Ingredients

  • Ground beef – 1 lb / 450 g
  • Ground pork – 1/2 lb / 225 g
  • Onion, finely chopped – 1 medium / 150 g
  • Breadcrumbs – 1 cup / 120 g
  • Milk – 1/2 cup / 120 ml
  • Egg – 1 large
  • Allspice – 1 tsp / 2 g
  • Salt – 1 tsp / 6 g
  • Black pepper – 1/2 tsp / 1 g
  • Butter – 2 tbsp / 30 g
  • Flour – 2 tbsp / 16 g
  • Beef broth – 2 cups / 480 ml
  • Heavy cream – 1/2 cup / 120 ml

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk, and let them soak for 5 minutes.
  3. Add ground beef, ground pork, chopped onion, egg, allspice, salt, and pepper to the breadcrumb mixture, and blend well until all ingredients are fully combined.
  4. Shape the mixture into 1-inch (2.5 cm) meatballs.
  5. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.
  6. Transfer the browned meatballs to a baking dish, and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, until cooked through.
  7. In the same skillet, melt the remaining butter, stir in the flour, and cook for 1 minute.
  8. Gradually whisk in beef broth, and bring the sauce to a simmer. Add heavy cream and continue to cook until the sauce thickens.
  9. Serve the meatballs with the creamy sauce poured over them.
