Dorai karē – Classic
This is the traditional, time-tested version of the dish. It stays true to its origins, using well-established techniques and ingredients that define its authentic flavor. A perfect starting point for exploring its evolution.
Dorai Karē is a beloved Japanese interpretation of curry rice that has roots in Western cuisine. It traces its origins to the British Royal Navy’s curry practices during the Meiji Restoration, which were adapted in Japan to suit local palates. Unlike the saucy Japanese curry served with rice, Dorai Karē is characterized by its dry, spiced ground meat mixture which is served atop fluffy steamed rice. It incorporates the subtle sweetness and depth of umami flavors typical of Japanese dishes, presenting a comforting yet exotic meal that has captivated both home cooks and diners across Japan.
