Ingredients

  • pickled herring fillets – 4 pieces / 200 g
  • mayonnaise – 1/2 cup / 120 g
  • crème fraîche – 1/4 cup / 60 g
  • sweet apple, peeled and diced – 1 medium / 120 g
  • red onion, finely chopped – 1 small / 50 g
  • curry powder – 2 tsp / 4 g
  • lemon juice – 1 tbsp / 15 ml
  • dill, chopped – 2 tbsp / 8 g
  • salt – to taste
  • black pepper – to taste

Instructions

  1. Drain and pat dry the pickled herring fillets with paper towels. Cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  2. In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, crème fraîche, curry powder, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  3. Add the diced apple and chopped red onion to the bowl and mix well.
  4. Gently fold in the herring pieces and chopped dill until everything is well incorporated.
  5. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  6. Serve chilled as a spread over rye bread or crackers, garnished with additional dill if desired.
