Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour – 4 cups / 480 g
  • granulated sugar – 1/4 cup / 50 g
  • salt – 1 teaspoon
  • instant yeast – 2 1/4 teaspoons / 7 g
  • whole milk – 1 cup / 240 ml
  • unsalted butter – 1/4 cup / 57 g
  • egg – 1 large, beaten
  • brown sugar – 1/2 cup / 100 g
  • ground cinnamon – 2 tablespoons
  • cream cheese – 4 oz / 113 g, softened
  • vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
  • powdered sugar – 1 cup / 120 g

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Set aside.
  2. Heat milk and butter until warm (around 110°F/43°C) and add to the flour mixture.
  3. Mix in the beaten egg until a dough begins to form. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6-8 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm place, covered, for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll the dough into a rectangle, approximately 16×10 inches.
  6. Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle with a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Roll the dough tightly from one long edge to the other to form a log and cut into 12 pieces.
  8. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for 30-45 minutes until doubled.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract for the icing and spread over warm rolls.
