Ingredients
- chicken pieces – 1 kg / 2.2 lbs
- onion – 2 medium, finely sliced
- tomatoes – 3 medium, chopped
- ginger-garlic paste – 2 tablespoons
- yogurt – 1 cup / 240 ml
- cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
- coriander powder – 2 teaspoons
- red chili powder – 1 teaspoon
- turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon
- garam masala – 1 teaspoon
- fresh cilantro – handful, chopped
- green chilies – 2, sliced
- cooking oil – 4 tablespoons
- salt – to taste
Instructions
- Heat the cooking oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a minute.
- Add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook until fragrant.
- Add chopped tomatoes and sauté until they soften, about 5 minutes.
- Mix in the coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric, and salt. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- Add chicken pieces and stir to coat in the spice mixture. Cook until the chicken turns white.
- Stir in the yogurt and mix well. Cover the pot and let it simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add garam masala and chopped green chilies. Cook uncovered for another 5 minutes or until the chicken is fully cooked.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with naan or rice.
