Ingredients

  • Chicken feet – 1 lb / 450 g
  • Carrots – 2 medium, sliced
  • Yellow yam – 1 lb / 450 g, peeled and cubed
  • Pumpkin – 1/2 lb / 225 g, peeled and cubed
  • Scotch bonnet pepper – 1 whole
  • Garlic – 3 cloves, minced
  • Thyme – 2 sprigs
  • Scallions – 2, chopped
  • Allspice berries – 6 whole
  • Salt – 1 1/2 tsp
  • Black pepper – 1 tsp
  • Water – 6 cups / 1.5 liters
  • Flour – 1 cup / 120 g
  • Water (for dumplings) – 1/4 cup / 60 ml

Instructions

  1. Clean chicken feet thoroughly and remove nails.
  2. In a large pot, bring the water to a boil. Add chicken feet and cook until tender, about 30 minutes.
  3. Add carrots, yellow yam, pumpkin, garlic, thyme, scallions, allspice, salt, and pepper to the pot.
  4. Simmer for 20 minutes until vegetables are tender.
  5. Meanwhile, prepare dumplings by mixing flour and water into a dough. Roll into small balls and add to the soup.
  6. Place the whole Scotch bonnet pepper into the pot (do not split unless you want more heat).
  7. Cook for another 15 minutes, allowing the dumplings to cook and the flavors to meld.
  8. Adjust salt and pepper to taste before serving.

  • Allspice berries -> Ground allspice – 1/2 tsp
