Ingredients

  • Sourdough starter – 1 cup / 240 ml
  • Warm water – 1 1/2 cups / 360 ml
  • All-purpose flour – 4 cups / 480 g
  • Salt – 1 tbsp / 15 g

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter and warm water, stirring to dissolve.
  2. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rise at room temperature for 12-24 hours until it doubles in size.
  4. Once risen, turn the dough out onto a floured surface and shape it into a round loaf.
  5. Place the shaped dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover it again with the damp cloth, and let it rise for another 2 hours.
  6. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) with a Dutch oven inside.
  7. Carefully transfer the dough into the hot Dutch oven, cover it, and bake for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 20 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
