Ingredients

  • piranha fish – 500 g / 1 lb
  • water – 4 cups / 960 ml
  • onion – 1 medium, chopped
  • tomato – 2 medium, chopped
  • bell pepper – 1 medium, chopped
  • garlic – 3 cloves, minced
  • cilantro – 1/4 cup / 10 g, chopped
  • olive oil – 2 tbsp / 30 ml
  • lime – 1, juiced
  • salt – to taste
  • black pepper – to taste

Instructions

  1. Clean the piranha fish thoroughly, removing scales and entrails.
  2. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper, sauté until soft and translucent.
  4. Add tomatoes and cook until softened.
  5. Add the cleaned piranha fish to the pot, pour in water, and bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes to an hour, allowing flavors to meld.
  7. Remove fish from the broth, debone and shred the meat. Return the meat to the pot.
  8. Add cilantro and lime juice, and season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  9. Serve hot, garnished with extra cilantro if desired.
