Ingredients

  • Pork shoulder – 2 lbs / 900 g
  • Onion – 1 large, chopped
  • Garlic cloves – 4, minced
  • Caraway seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Bay leaves – 2
  • Black pepper – 1 tsp
  • Salt – 1 tbsp
  • Paprika – 1 tbsp
  • Vegetable oil – 2 tbsp
  • Water – 3 cups / 720 ml

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat.
  2. Season the pork shoulder with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. Brown the pork shoulder on all sides, about 6-8 minutes per side.
  4. Remove the pork and set aside. In the same pot, sauté onions until translucent.
  5. Add garlic, caraway seeds, and bay leaves, cooking until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  6. Add the pork back into the pot and pour in water.
  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover. Simmer for about 2 to 3 hours or until the meat is tender.
  8. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Serve hot with your choice of bread or boiled potatoes.
