Beef Flank Steak is a quintessential American meat dish that showcases the rustic simplicity and bold flavors appreciated across the United States. Traditionally grilled to perfection and often served during barbecues or family gatherings, the flank steak is known for its rich, beefy flavor that holds up well against a variety of marinades. Originating from the underbelly of the cow, the flank steak has long fibers and should be thinly sliced against the grain to ensure tenderness. This dish is celebrated for its versatility and can be prepared with numerous herbs and spices, making it a beloved staple in American kitchens.
Ingredients
- beef flank steak – 2 lbs / 900 g
- soy sauce – 1/2 cup / 120 ml
- olive oil – 1/3 cup / 80 ml
- lemon juice – 1/4 cup / 60 ml
- minced garlic – 4 cloves
- brown sugar – 2 tbsp / 25 g
- ground black pepper – 1 tsp / 5 g
- salt – 1 tsp / 5 g
- chopped fresh parsley – 2 tbsp / 8 g
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, brown sugar, ground black pepper, and salt to create a marinade.
- Place the beef flank steak in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over the steak. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
- Preheat your grill to high heat. Lightly oil the grill grate to prevent sticking.
- Remove the flank steak from the marinade and shake off excess. Discard the marinade.
- Grill the steak for 6-8 minutes on each side or until it reaches the desired level of doneness. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy: 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare, 140°F (60°C) for medium.
- Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for 5-10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
- Thinly slice the steak against the grain and garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
