Ingredients

  • white fish fillets (such as cod or tilapia) – 1 lb / 450 g
  • corn tortillas – 8 pieces
  • all-purpose flour – 1 cup / 120 g
  • baking powder – 1 tsp
  • beer – 1 cup / 240 ml
  • salt – 1 tsp
  • oil for frying – 2 cups / 480 ml
  • green cabbage, shredded – 2 cups / 180 g
  • carrot, shredded – 1 medium
  • mayonnaise – 1/2 cup / 120 ml
  • lime, juiced – 1
  • cilantro, chopped – 1/4 cup / 15 g

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and 1 tsp salt. Gradually whisk in the beer until smooth.
  2. Cut fish into strips. Coat each strip in the batter.
  3. Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry fish pieces until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Mix cabbage, carrot, mayonnaise, lime juice, and cilantro in a bowl for the slaw.
  5. Warm tortillas in a pan or microwave.
  6. Assemble tacos by placing a strip of fish in each tortilla, topped with slaw and additional cilantro if desired.
