Amlou is a luxurious almond and argan oil spread from Morocco, famed for its rich flavors and delightful textures. This traditional Moroccan delicacy is often enjoyed with bread during breakfast or as a decadent snack. Amlou combines the nutty essence of roasted almonds, the silky smoothness of pure argan oil, and the natural sweetness of honey to create a spread that is both simple and indulgent. Its roots can be traced back to the culinary traditions of the Berber people, where it has been cherished for generations.

Ingredients

  • Roasted almonds – 1 cup / 150 g
  • Argan oil – 1/2 cup / 120 ml
  • Honey – 1/4 cup / 85 g
  • Salt – 1/4 tsp

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, grind the roasted almonds until you achieve a coarse texture similar to almond meal.
  2. Slowly drizzle in the argan oil while the processor is running, allowing the mixture to become smooth and creamy.
  3. Add the honey and salt, blending until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated. Adjust the sweetness by adding more honey if desired.
  4. Transfer the amlou to a clean jar and store it in the refrigerator. Allow it to sit at room temperature before serving to achieve the best spreading consistency.
