Bullet Naan is a spicy, flavorful variation of the traditional Indian flatbread, known for its rich incorporation of herbs and fiery spices. Originating from the vibrant culinary traditions of North India, especially the Punjab region, Bullet Naan is a delightful accompaniment to any curry or lentil dish. This version enhances the classic naan with a kick of fragrant garlic and green chilies—an explosion of taste that earned it the name ‘Bullet’.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour – 2 cups / 260 g
  • Baking powder – 1 tsp / 4 g
  • Salt – 1 tsp / 5 g
  • Sugar – 1 tsp / 4 g
  • Yogurt – 1/2 cup / 120 g
  • Warm water – 1/2 cup / 120 ml
  • Chopped coriander – 2 tbsp / 8 g
  • Green chilies (finely chopped) – 2
  • Garlic (minced) – 3 cloves
  • Garam masala – 1 tsp / 3 g
  • Butter – 2 tbsp / 28 g

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. Mix in yogurt and warm water, kneading until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Cover, and let the dough rest for 1 hour until it doubles in size.
  4. Divide the dough into four equal parts and roll into balls.
  5. Flatten each ball, sprinkle with green chilies, coriander, garlic, and garam masala. Knead into the dough slightly.
  6. Roll each naan into an oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Preheat your cooking surface (tandoor, oven, or cast iron skillet) to high heat.
  8. Cook naan until bubbly and golden brown on both sides. Brush with melted butter before serving.
