Garullas are traditional Colombian buns that originate from the Andean region of the country. Ingredients
- all-purpose flour – 3 cups / 360 g
- milk – 1 cup / 240 ml
- sugar – 1/2 cup / 100 g
- unsalted butter – 1/2 cup / 113 g
- eggs – 2 large
- yeast – 2 1/4 tsp / 7 g
- salt – 1/2 tsp
Instructions
- Warm the milk slightly and dissolve the yeast with a pinch of sugar. Let it stand until foamy, about 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the beaten eggs, melted butter, and yeasty milk mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal pieces. Shape each into a ball and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
- Cool on a wire rack before serving.
