Ingredients
- Ripe guavas – 2 cups / 400 g
- Water – 1 cup / 240 ml
- Sugar – 1/2 cup / 100 g
- Lime juice – 2 tablespoons / 30 ml
- Jalapeño (optional) – 1 small, finely chopped
- Salt – 1/4 teaspoon
Instructions
- Peel and deseed the guavas, then chop the flesh into small pieces.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the guava pieces and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes until the guavas are soft.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Blend the mixture until smooth.
- Return the purée to the saucepan and add sugar, lime juice, jalapeño, and salt.
- Simmer over low heat for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Taste and adjust with more lime juice or salt if desired.
- Serve warm or cold as a sauce for meats, desserts, or even as a dip.
