Ingredients

  • lamb shoulder, cubed – 1 kg / 2.2 lbs
  • onion, finely chopped – 1 large
  • prunes, pitted – 150 g / 5.3 oz
  • dried apricots – 100 g / 3.5 oz
  • honey – 4 tbsp / 60 ml
  • cinnamon stick – 1
  • cinnamon powder – 1 tsp
  • butter – 50 g / 1.8 oz
  • salt – to taste
  • black pepper – to taste
  • water – 2 cups / 480 ml

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté the onion until translucent.
  2. Add the lamb cubes and brown them on all sides.
  3. Season with salt, black pepper, and add the cinnamon stick and ground cinnamon.
  4. Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 1 hour or until the lamb is tender.
  5. Stir in the honey, prunes, and dried apricots. Continue to simmer for an additional 20 minutes until the fruits have plumped up and the sauce has thickened.
  6. Adjust seasoning if necessary and serve hot, garnished with toasted almonds if desired.
