Ingredients
- fresh herring fillets – 8 fillets
- rye breadcrumbs – 1 cup / 100 g
- all-purpose flour – 2 tablespoons / 15 g
- egg – 1 large
- milk – 1/4 cup / 60 ml
- butter – 3 tablespoons / 42 g
- salt – to taste
- black pepper – to taste
- dill – 2 tablespoons, chopped
- lemon – 1, cut into wedges
Instructions
- Rinse the herring fillets under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- Mix flour, salt, and pepper on a plate. In another bowl, whisk the egg with milk. Place rye breadcrumbs on a third plate.
- Coat each fillet in the flour mixture, then dip in the egg mix, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
- Heat butter in a large pan over medium heat. Fry the fillets for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
- Garnish with chopped dill and serve hot with lemon wedges.
