Stuffed Camel is an extravagant and legendary dish originating from the United Arab Emirates, often reserved for momentous celebrations such as weddings. This astonishing dish is a showcase of culinary opulence and heritage, where a whole camel is lavishly stuffed with a blend of savory spices, aromatic herbs, and other meats, creating a feast of extraordinary grandeur. Ingredients
- camel meat pieces – 2 kg / 4.4 lbs
- lamb mince – 500 g / 1.1 lbs
- basmati rice – 2 cups / 400 g
- onions – 2 large, finely chopped
- garlic – 4 cloves, minced
- cumin powder – 2 tsp
- coriander powder – 2 tsp
- cinnamon – 1 stick
- cardamom pods – 4
- bay leaves – 2
- salt – to taste
- black pepper – to taste
- slivered almonds – 1/2 cup / 50 g
- raisins – 1/2 cup / 75 g
- olive oil – 4 tbsp
- fresh cilantro – 1 bunch, chopped
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot. Add onions and garlic, sauté until golden.
- Add lamb mince, cumin, coriander, black pepper, and salt; cook until browned.
- Stir in basmati rice, slivered almonds, raisins, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and bay leaves.
- Pour in 4 cups of water, bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes until rice is cooked.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Stuff camel meat pieces generously with the prepared rice mixture.
- Place stuffed camel pieces in a large baking dish, cover with foil, and roast for about 2 hours, until the meat is tender and succulent.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
