Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour – 4 cups / 500 g
  • warm water – 1 1/4 cups / 300 ml
  • active dry yeast – 2 1/4 tsp / 7 g
  • sugar – 2 tbsp / 30 g
  • salt – 1 tsp / 5 g
  • olive oil – 3 tbsp / 45 ml
  • sesame seeds – 1/2 cup / 70 g

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then turn onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into two portions. Shape each portion into a ring and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Brush with a little water and sprinkle generously with sesame seeds.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Allow to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
