Ingredients

  • Ground beef – 500 g / 1.1 lb

  • Milk – 60 ml / 1/4 cup
  • Egg – 1 large
  • Olive oil – 60 ml / 1/4 cup
  • Tomatoes, crushed – 800 g / 28 oz can
  • Tomato paste – 2 tablespoons
  • Basil, fresh – A handful
  • Salt – 1 tsp
  • Black pepper – 1 tsp
  • Sugar – 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, bread crumbs, milk, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to combine.
  2. Shape the mixture into small balls, about the size of a golf ball.
  3. In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, then remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and sugar. Stir well and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Return the meatballs to the pan, ensuring they are submerged in the sauce. Simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes.
  6. Before serving, stir in the fresh basil leaves and season the sauce with additional salt and pepper to taste.
