Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour – 3 1/2 cups / 420 g

  • Candied orange peel – 1/2 cup / 80 g, diced
  • Almonds – 1 cup / 140 g, chopped
  • Walnuts – 1 cup / 100 g, chopped
  • Cocoa powder – 1/4 cup / 30 g
  • Anise seeds – 1 teaspoon
  • Baking powder – 2 teaspoons
  • Milk – 3/4 cup / 180 ml
  • Olive oil – 1/4 cup / 60 ml
  • Salt – 1/2 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, cocoa powder, anise seeds, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the honey, milk, and olive oil until thoroughly combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing gently to form a dough.
  5. Fold in the chopped figs, raisins, candied orange peel, almonds, and walnuts until evenly distributed.
  6. Transfer the dough into the greased pan, spreading it evenly.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the Certosino to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
