Ingredients
- all-purpose flour – 4 cups / 500 g
- yeast – 2 tsp / 7 g
- sugar – 1 tbsp / 15 g
- salt – 1 tsp / 5 g
- milk – 1 cup / 240 ml
- butter – 1/2 cup / 115 g
- egg – 1 large
- beef – 400 g / 14 oz, diced
- potatoes – 2 medium, peeled and diced
- onion – 1 large, chopped
- black pepper – 1 tsp / 5 g
- salt for filling – to taste
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by mixing it with warm milk and sugar. Let sit for 10-15 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and the frothy yeast mixture. Add melted butter and egg. Knead until smooth.
- Cover dough and let rise in a warm place for approximately 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- For the filling, mix diced beef, potatoes, and onion. Season with salt and black pepper.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Divide the dough into 6 portions. Roll each into a circle, approximately 6 inches in diameter.
- Place a generous amount of filling in the center of each circle, then fold the edges to form a triangle, pinching the corners to seal tightly.
- Bake on a lined baking sheet for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve warm and enjoy the savory flavors of Russia.
