Ingredients
- Cabbage – 1 large head
- Ground beef – 500 g / 1 lb
- White rice – 100 g / 1/2 cup, uncooked
- Onion – 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic – 2 cloves, minced
- Tomato paste – 3 tbsp
- Salt – 1 tsp
- Black pepper – 1/2 tsp
- Water – 500 ml / 2 cups
- Sunflower oil – 2 tbsp
Instructions
- Core the cabbage and simmer in a large pot of boiling water for about 10 minutes until the leaves are tender. Remove from water and cool.
- In a bowl, combine the ground beef, uncooked rice, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Carefully separate cabbage leaves and place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center of each leaf. Roll tightly, tucking in the sides.
- In a large saucepan, heat the sunflower oil over medium heat. Brown the cabbage rolls on all sides.
- Mix tomato paste with water and pour over the browned cabbage rolls. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
- Serve the golubtsy with a generous spoon of the sauce drizzled over the top.
