Ingredients

  • fresh fish fillets – 1 lb / 450 g
  • shrimp, peeled and deveined – 1/2 lb / 225 g
  • coconut milk – 4 cups / 960 ml
  • green plantains – 2, peeled and sliced
  • yautía (malanga or taro) – 2 cups / 340 g, chopped
  • potatoes – 2 cups / 340 g, chopped
  • onion – 1 large, diced
  • bell pepper – 1, diced
  • garlic cloves – 3, minced
  • oregano – 1 tsp
  • cumin – 1/2 tsp
  • cilantro – 1/4 cup / 10 g, chopped
  • olive oil – 2 tbsp
  • salt – to taste
  • black pepper – to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté onion, bell pepper, and garlic until fragrant.
  2. Add coconut milk, plantains, yautía, and potatoes. Bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer until vegetables are tender, about 20-25 minutes.
  4. Add fish and shrimp, seasoning with oregano, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Cook until the seafood is opaque and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle cilantro over the soup before serving.
