Pasta al Forno, an Italian classic, is a baked pasta dish that embodies the warmth and love of Italian home cooking. Ingredients

  • pasta (penne or rigatoni) – 400 g / 14 oz
  • ground beef – 250 g / 9 oz
  • tomato sauce – 2 cups / 480 ml
  • onion, chopped – 1 large
  • garlic cloves, minced – 3
  • olive oil – 2 tbsp
  • mozzarella cheese, shredded – 200 g / 7 oz
  • parmesan cheese, grated – 50 g / 1.75 oz
  • basil leaves – a handful
  • salt – to taste
  • black pepper – to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (356°F).
  2. Cook the pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until tender.
  4. Add ground beef to the skillet, cooking until browned.
  5. Pour in the tomato sauce, add salt and pepper, and let simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. In a baking dish, layer half of the pasta, cover with half of the meat sauce, sprinkle half of the mozzarella and parmesan.
  7. Repeat layers with remaining pasta, sauce, and cheeses. Top with fresh basil leaves.
  8. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Let it cool slightly before serving.
